Six Mandatory CME Programs for Connecticut Medical License Renewal
Available Online

During the 2016 Connecticut General Assembly, two new courses were mandated for physicians in order to renew their medical license:  Mental Health Conditions Common to Veterans (falls under Behavioral Health) and Prescribing Controlled Substances and Pain Management (falls under Risk Management).  Even though these two new courses can be substituted for already existing requirements, ALL PHYSICIANS MUST TAKE A ONE-HOUR COURSE IN PRESCRIBING CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES AND PAIN MANAGEMENT AND A TWO-HOUR COURSE IN MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS COMMON TO VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS.

On June 4, 2016, FCMA presented its Mandatory CME Training for Connecticut Medical License Renewal Program where physicians were able to fulfill all six mandated license renewal topics during this session.  The topics presented were as follows:

  • Mental Health Conditions Common to Veterans (newly mandated, falls under Behavioral Health)
  • Prescribing Controlled Substances and Pain Management (newly mandated, falls under Risk Management)
  • Sexual Assault
  • Domestic Violence
  • Infectious Diseases (including AIDS and HIV)
  • Cultural Competency
FCMA has all six mandatory topics available, INCLUDING THE TWO NEWEST COURSES, for online viewing.  Once you have viewed the video(s), download and return this order form, the corresponding questionnaire, and your payment to FCMA. We will then send you your Certificate of Completion:

Mandatory OSHA Annual Bloodborne Pathogen Training and
Hazard Communications In-House Training

The updated OSHA Hazard Communication training and compliance plan updates were mandatory as of June 1, 2016. Hazard training is only required once for each employee with potential risk.  However, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen training continues to be required annually for all at risk employees.  All new employees must receive training before they begin their work.  (If a doctor is self-employed, OSHA does not consider the doctor an employee and the doctor is not required to comply with the regulations. However, if the practice is organized as an LLP or LLC, OSHA considers the doctor to be an employee and the doctor must also receive annual Bloodborne Pathogen training.)

Fairfield County Medical Association, in partnership with OSHA Medical Courses, LLC, offers a training kit that all medical practices can administer to their employees.  Medical practices will now be able to repeatedly and conveniently use this material to train, administer the quiz, grade it, and create a Certificate of Training for each employee upon successful completion of the course.

The training kit (flash drive) contains the following:

  • Narrated PowerPoint training videos on Bloodborne Pathogen and Hazard Communications
  • A quiz for both Bloodborne Pathogen and Hazard Control Training for your employee(s) to complete
  • Quiz answers
  • Customizable Certificates of Training
  • Customizable Compliance Plan for Bloodborne Pathogen
  • Customizable Compliance Plan for Hazard Communication

To order the training kit, download and return this order form with payment to FCMA.
